Dr. Thomas W. Glanton, Jr. has been inside that problem for more than three decades.

He started in the classroom as a high school English teacher — close enough to the chaos to feel it firsthand. By age 30, he was serving simultaneously as a high school principal and an elementary assistant principal in the DeKalb County School District and the Atlanta Public School System. He didn’t read about school discipline. He managed it every day, in two buildings, with real stakes.

What he found shocked him: the discipline breakdowns weren’t caused by bad kids or bad teachers. They were caused by broken systems — or no systems at all. Administrators were improvising. Teachers were surviving. And students were the ones paying the price.

He spent the next two decades fixing that — first at the building level as a principal, then at scale as Director of Leadership Development for DeKalb County School District, where he trained and coached principals across one of the largest school systems in Georgia. Later, as Area Superintendent of High Schools, he oversaw multiple campuses and saw every category of discipline failure imaginable — from classrooms that had lost control to entire schools that had lost their culture.

His work produced results. He transformed a Title I school using a structured discipline management approach and was named Georgia PTA Principal of the Year and DeKalb County Principal of the Year.

After more than 30 years in public education — from classroom teacher to Area Superintendent — Dr. Glanton left district leadership to do one thing: give every principal in America access to the discipline systems that took him three decades to develop.
